Holy Batman Cake, Batman!

by caralin, in category birthdays

Sixteen sodium atoms walk into a bar followed by Batman.  And he had cake!  (I can’t say I know most of the periodic table, but I do know sodium is “na”… and I certainly know cake!) As a follow up  to my superhero cake from a while ago, I’d like to present this Batman cake.… Read More

Game of Thrones: Cake is Coming.

by caralin, in category birthdays, carved cakes that look like stuff

Winter is coming.   Luckily, today it’s in cake form! Winter may be the last thing on your mind at the beginning of August, but for Game of Thrones fans these words take on a very different meaning.  I definitely count myself among this group, so I was thrilled when I was asked to design a… Read More

Argyle, Bow Tie & Moustache Cake

by caralin, in category baby showers, baptism, birthdays

As a counterpoint to last week’s girly cake, I now present a very manly little cake for a manly little boy! This was actually for a baptism, but could easily serve for a baby shower or birthday too (even for grown up, not so little boys with moustaches and bow ties of their own!). Here’s… Read More

Bunting, Bows & Polka Dots

by caralin, in category birthdays

Today’s pretty cake was designed for a little girl whose favourite colour is yellow – I think it fit the bill!  I balanced the delicate lace-y borders with fun, multi-coloured bunting and a big, polka dot bow.

Stegosaurus Dino Cake

by caralin, in category 3D sculpted cakes, birthdays, carved cakes that look like stuff

I made this cute stegosaurus birthday cake recently for a little boy who absolutely LOVES dinosaurs. I sent his mom a couple of different designs, initially – one was a cake shaped like a dino, like this one, and the other was a round cake with a little dino figure on top.  The birthday boy liked… Read More

Rosette Mousse Cake (and contest reminder!)

by caralin, in category birthdays, mousse

Here is the third (and final) cake I made last weekend – whew, that was a lot of cake! This cake was a special one, since it was for the combined birthdays of my wonderful godparents (love you guys!).  However, I only managed to get a few quick snaps of it, since my ravenous family… Read More

Throwback Thursday: Celtic Football Club Jersey Cake

by caralin, in category birthdays, buttercream, throwback thursdays

So, I originally started this blog several years ago.  Those of you who have been following me since then (thanks, guys!!) know that I sort of fell off the wagon and didn’t post anything for a while (okay, I didn’t post anything for a loooong time), but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t making tasty cakes!  (To… Read More

Happy 50th Birthday!

by caralin, in category birthdays, buttercream

I made this pretty, rustic birthday cake this weekend.   It was a great chance to try out some new rose petal cutters I got – I definitely approve, and I can’t wait to use them again soon!

A Super Superhero Cake

by caralin, in category birthdays

I made this “super” cake for a very special eight-year-old.  Spiderman, Batman and Superman – the big three are here! The logos are hand painted, and, like the rest of the cake (of course!), fully edible.  There is one little post holding up the 3D eight, but otherwise, you can chow down on all of… Read More

A Dino-riffic Birthday!

by caralin, in category birthdays

I made a cake this weekend for the 2nd birthday of my very dear friend’s son.  He’s a big fan of the show Dinosaur Train (which I hadn’t even heard of since I don’t have kids of my own!), so we modelled this cake after the two main characters on the show. I baked and filled… Read More
